SUNHEAT is a family owned and operated business employing several family members. We are a dealer oriented company, supporting and promoting independent business owners, across the country. SUNHEAT realized from the beginning that both our success, and that of our dealers, was predicated on offering the best products on the market, coupled with unparallel service to the consumer. Since 1954, when Ted Rookstool’s family first started the business, the spirit of innovation has always been the driving force. The company was founded in North Platte, Nebraska; relocating to Grand Island, Nebraska in the 1960’s; and experienced a regional expansion in the 1970’s. In the 1980’s, with the first energy crunch, we began selling the first infrared heater on the market, the Sun Twin. This new infrared technology was very exciting but very expensive and much less effective than the SUNHEAT heaters are today.

From 1995 to 2005 we grew to become the largest volume, independent sewing machine dealer in the world. In 2003, when fuel prices began to dramatically affect home heating costs, Ted rediscovered the Sun Twin,the original manufacturer of infrared heaters, which he had sold decades before.

We became a dealer and that spring sold about 1000 Sun Twin heaters. The next season we sold over 4000 Sun Twins. We then made an agreement to distribute Sun Twin over an 8 state region. However, by the time the next heater season started, Sun Twin sold their company to Bio-Tech Research, the parent company of Eden Pure. Not satisfied with the quality produced by the new company, Ted sent a prototype of the new SUNHEAT to an overseas manufacturer.

This manufacturer had built products for Ted for over a decade, and understood his high standards and expectations for the SUNHEAT. By January 2006, the first SUNHEAT electronic infrared heaters were being sold.

Since the introduction of the Original Sunheat, sales grown by leaps and bounds. The Original SUNHEAT is the most referred product in the history of the company. Many SUNHEAT customers now own several and proudly refer friends and family to authorized SUNHEAT retailers across the country.

Ted and the SUNHEAT family have continued to work very hard to improve the quality and appearance of the Original SUNHEAT. They have a proprietary agreement with their overseas manufacturer and SUNHEAT products are inspected and quality checked in Grand Island, Nebraska. SUNHEAT recently made the investment to build a state of the art manufacturing plant in Nebraska to produce heirloom quality, environmentally friendly cabinets for the Original SUNHEAT.

In 2009 SUNHEAT International introduced the first Electronic Infrared Fireplace with beautiful all wood mantel. The SUNHEAT Electronic Infrared Fireplace appears to be every bit as popular as the Original SUNHEAT. Above all else, SUNHEAT has made a commitment to a growing dealer network.
